Mendelssohn Journal Policy Procedures
Submissions:
Articles of any length will be considered. Typical articles run 4,000–12,000 words.
Articles may be submitted to the editor (via email attachment) at any time, and must include all musical examples, diagrams, and/or illustrations.
Articles should be accompanied by a one-paragraph abstract of their content.
Articles should be submitted in a single Apple Pages or Microsoft Word document, single spaced, black font, Helvetica Neue or comparable font.
m. 10, mm. 10-15
Body text 12 pt. Footnote text 10 pt. Headings 18 pt. Sub-headings 16 pt.
Footnotes on the same page. Musical examples, diagrams, and/or illustrations as close to the reference point in the text as possible.
For questions of citation, refer to the current edition of The Chicago Manual of Style.
All submissions should be in English or German.
Submissions must not have been previously published nor be slated to be published elsewhere, nor be submitted to other publishers or journals until after an editorial decision has been rendered.
All articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. Learn More.
Authors are responsible for obtaining copyright permissions and for any fees incurred for those permissions. These must be fully obtained within a month of an article’s acceptance, or the journal reserves the right to revoke its acceptance.
Review Process:
The editor will acknowledge receipt of submitted materials via email.
Submissions will be reviewed by the editor for suitability. If a submission is deemed appropriate, it will be sent to external evaluators.
Evaluators will usually be chosen from the editorial board, but may be other notable musicologists with established international reputations in the field of Mendelssohn research.
The process is double blind: evaluators remain anonymous to authors, and authors remain anonymous to evaluators.
Evaluators will be asked to fill out a review form and to submit their comments to the editor within one month of agreeing to review a submission; unusually long or detailed submissions may take longer to review.
The editor will forward evaluator comments to the author along with a decision regarding publication.
